Biography
Yu Chi (Lydia) Cheung is a ceramicist. They were born in Hong Kong and is currently based in London. They graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2025 with a BA First Class Honours in Ceramic Design. With a background in illustration, they use their experience in conjunction with ceramics to create layered narratives that highlights the themes of repetition and mundanity, a realisation to how its insignificancies carries value in the big picture.
Artist Statement
‘‘We will all erode long before this fired clay—so what does this mean to those of us who exist in the present?’ Through working with ceramics, I narrate everyday experiences and the theme of mundanity. My work finds the significance in the insignificant, and the soul of the big picture. I approach ceramics as if I am drawing, using the experiences of the bodily senses to guide my work, creating pieces that embody repetition visually and in process. Layered with narrative, my pieces are a statement of belief, and a point of reflection.
